Letter to City of Vancouver on Transit for Teens

In our 2022 BC Child Poverty Report Card, First Call recommended that the provincial government “Provide free public transit for minors ages 13 to 18 and free or reduced-fee transit access for low-income households.”

In June 2023 we wrote to Vancouver’s mayor and council urging them to support the Centre for Family Equity’s Transit for Teens Campaign.

We urge all municipalities to call on the provincial government to make public transit accessible to all teens in the province. Free transit for minors is an important measure to reduce income inequality and poverty experienced by many teens and that affects their ability to fully participate in educational, social and other important activities.
