On September 5, 2026, First Call sent a letter to all BC Members of Parliament and relevant federal ministers urging them to support Bill S-209, the Protecting Young Persons from Exposure to Pornography Act. The bill, which would make it an offence for organizations to make pornographic material available to young people online, passed the Senate unanimously last spring and is now coming up for second reading in the House of Commons.
Violent, degrading, dehumanizing and abusive online content is freely and easily accessible to children and young people, who are being exposed to online pornography at increasingly early ages. A growing body of research shows that this exposure can contribute to harms affecting children’s mental, social and physical health.
We are calling on MPs to prioritize the protection of children and support Bill S-209 throughout the legislative process.
