In 2018 First Call made a submission to the BC Government recommending that they redesign the BC Early Childhood Tax Benefit into a BC Child Benefit that would cover children under age 18, instead of under age 6, increase the maximum benefit per child per year and index it annually to the cost of living.
In the 2019 provincial budget, the BC government announced the new BC Child Opportunity Benefit which would cover children under age 18 and more than double the amount of the maximum benefit per child, beginning in fall of 2020. This new benefit was eventually renamed the BC Family Benefit.
