In November 2023, friends at Corinne’s Quest alerted us to an upcoming vote in Parliament on BC MP Peter Julian’s Bill C-273 calling for the repeal of Section 43. If MPs get enough encouragement from their constituents, we’re hopeful it could pass.  

On November 3, 2023 First Call wrote to the federal Minister of Justice Virani and all BC MPs urging them to support Bill C-273.   

Earlier, in April 2023, First Call also wrote to BC Senators urging them to support Bill S-251, put forward by Senator Stanley Kutcher, which also calls for the repeal of Section 43.  

Repealing Section 43 is one of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action Canada has promised to implement.
