Our Letter to BC MLA’s About the 2025 BC Child Poverty Report Card

Following the release of First Call’s 2025 BC Child Poverty Report Card, we wrote to Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) across British Columbia to share the findings and outline urgent provincial actions needed to address not just the rate of child poverty, but its growing depth. While overall child poverty rates remain stubbornly high, families are falling further below the poverty line amid rising costs for housing, food, and child care. This letter calls on the BC government to strengthen income supports, invest in affordable housing and child care, and ensure provincial policies meaningfully improve the lives of children and families.
