Submission to BC’s Poverty Reduction Strategy
Our recent submission to the review of the BC government’s Poverty Reduction Strategy is informed by the cross-sectoral expertise and province-wide reach of our diverse network of affiliates, a commitment to the Four Keys to Success, and findings from our most recent BC Child Poverty Report Card.
Our submission makes 14 recommendations including
- reducing income and wealth inequality;
- establishing a permanent Fair Wages Commission to advise government on ways to bring working families above the poverty line;
- raising income and disability assistance rates and indexing the BC Family Benefit;
- ensuring youth aging out of government care have the supports they need to avoid living in poverty; and
- scaling up funding to build thousands of new social and affordable rental housing units.
