First Call’s work is guided by the Four Keys to Success for Children and Youth. These keys were developed by First Call through extensive research and focus groups across the province, and reflect the scope of what is necessary to ensure the healthy development and well-being of BC’s children and youth.
First Call believes that to promote the health and well-being of children and youth, they and their families need the following Four Keys to Success:
- A Strong Commitment to Early Childhood Development
- Support in Transitions from Childhood to Youth and Adulthood
- Increased Economic Equality
- Safe and Caring Communities

To achieve these Four Keys, we need to recognize that all children and youth are everybody’s business. Individuals, families, community organizations, businesses and governments all have a responsibility to contribute to this effort.
The Four Keys to Success are not intended to serve as a complete list of the requirements for child and youth well-being. These four keys are our priorities – areas in which new understanding and action will yield the greatest return for children and youth, as well as for the BC population as a whole.
