Youth Aging Out of Care during COVID19 – Call for BC MLAs support

On September 15, 2020, as a member of the BC Coalition to End Youth Homelessness, First Call forwarded a letter to Premier Horgan to all BC MLAs. The letter to the Premier calls on the provincial government to address the urgent concern about the risk of homelessness for a larger cohort of youth in care, who were allowed to extend their care placements past their 19th birthday because of the COVID19 pandemic. These youth are now set to leave care when this ‘pause’ expires on September 30, 2020.  MLAs were asked to work with us to make sure no young person aging out of the care system ends up homeless during this public health emergency.  If a housing plan is not in place, we are asking that the September 30th deadline be postponed.
