MCFD Response to First Call Roundtable on Child Care Registry

April 2015

Arif Lalani, executive director of the Provincial Services Division of the Ministry of Children and Family Development, responds to the letter by First Call’s Early Childhood Development Roundtable expressing concerns about the government’s online child care registry.

Lalani confirmed that the intent of the online registry is to improve parents’ access to up-to-date information about the availability of child care in their communities (a need based on feedback from the public), and that the registry would not be a replacement for child care resource and referral offices (CCRRs).

First Call’s recommendations and concerns would be taken into consideration, including its concern regarding parents facing literacy, language and other barriers to access.
