Premier Clark was quoted in a radio interview saying government can’t afford to meet the needs of children in care with additional funds unless the economy grows. It is untrue that we cannot afford to take care of BC’s most vulnerable children and youth. This is a choice government is making to abdicate their responsibilities. It’s time for this government to understand that investments in the well-being of BC’s vulnerable children are a moral imperative. Their health and safety should not be held hostage to market outcomes.
By contrast, a few days earlier, Clark announced $100 million from government for a tech sector venture capital fund, an investment aimed at supporting technology entrepreneurs. There was no similar statement that the money would flow only if the economy grows.
