Letter to Finance Minister Carol James and MLA Andrew Weaver on Child Care omission in 2017 BC Budget

As firm commitment to a universal child care plan was omitted in the September 2017 budget update, First Call wrote this letter to urge the new provincial government to strive to overcome any internal differences of opinion that may be delaying implementation of a universal child care plan.

First Call is counting on this government to move quickly to begin implementing a universal child care system that provides affordable, accessible, regulated high-quality care and early learning to every child whose family needs or wants it, starting with infant/toddler programs before gradually expanding. We know that thousands of young children with special needs are stuck on wait lists for access to child care due to underfunding of the Supported Child Development Program (both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal programs).
