This year has brought many changes at First Call but our commitment to putting children and youth first along with you remains at the heart of everything we do.
COVID19 has had a profound effect on children and their families, and on how we, as a staff working remotely, undertake our work. In spite of the challenges First Call can report some important wins for children and youth.
- Last fall, low- and middle-income families received a significant increase in their monthly BC Child Opportunity Benefit, along with an extension to cover children to the age of 18.
- Government is now allowing youth in care who are turning 19 to stay in their housing/placement until 2022.
- The BC government enacted regulations that will better protect children and youth who are working.
- And Living Wage for Families BC certified 300 employers including 10 local governments.
