First Call and Coalition for Healthy School Food Letters to Federal Party Leaders

First Call sent letters to federal party leaders this week to echo the Coalition for Healthy School Food’s calls for a universal, healthy school food program for Canada. The letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asks that the government include the development of a national school food program in the mandate letters of the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister of Health. The letters to party leaders of the NDP, Green, and Conservative Parties called for their support to continue to advocate for a national school food program.

We also recommend that Indigenous food sovereignty be a crucial component of any school food program for Canada, and that all consultations and negotiations include principles of Indigenous control over school food programming for Indigenous students.
