The Steering Committee of the BC Chapter of the Coalition for Healthy School Food (BC-C4HSF) recently circulated a statement explaining that they see the impact that school food can have for all students, but especially students and families who rely on food at school. That’s why they are heartened to see some mention of school food programs in the Minister’s comments and press release, tasking schools and school districts to “consider these issues [school meal programs that support vulnerable students] in their planning.”
The BC-C4HSF Steering Committee wanted to check in to see how programs are being affected and ask about planning that organizations are doing to explore alternative food delivery or programming to support children and youth during school closures. Your input will be shared with the Ministry of Education, as well as school districts, to help them address school food during the pandemic.
Please complete this survey by Wednesday, April 1.
The BC Chapter has also followed up with the Ministers of Education, Agriculture and Health to encourage them to “ensure that students that rely on school food programs are considered amidst the uncertainty of school closures”.
