The Supporting Progressive Inclusive Child-centred Education (SPICE) Research Lab recently shared results from an investigation on special education. The research is a population-based investigation of the K-12 educational trajectories of children across multiple categories of needs. The survey respondents helped identify research priorities related to the education journeys of students with special needs and disabilities.
The three identified priorities are (see links for research results):
- Whether students with special need and disabilities are completing high school and, if so, with what credential
- At what pace, over time, students with special needs and disabilities are progressing through grade levels
- The number of school years students with special needs and disabilities are in the school system prior to receiving their first/initial special needs designation
