In case you missed it, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-BC released a report on the #TogetherBC BC Poverty Reduction Strategy. The report outlines the flagship elements of the plan, including welcome changes to the rules for accessing social assistance (welfare benefits), which will end a number of very punitive, arbitrary and unfair policies. It also outlines where the plan should go further to reduce the depth and breadth of poverty in BC, including substantial boosts to social and disability assistance rates.
The BC Poverty Reduction Coalition has an email template you can use to send a message to the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, Shane Simpson. The letter congratulates the government on the launch of the plan, and calls for additional action on housing, child care, education, employment, health, transportation, access to justice and food security.
