Solving the challenges of poverty requires all three levels of government working in collaboration. The BC Poverty Reduction Coalition launched a campaign to help align municipal commitments with provincial and federal strategies, which includes a toolkit to explain what municipalities can and can’t do to prevent and reduce poverty in our communities. The coalition developed a draft resolution that local councils can use to call for an accountable, bold and comprehensive provincial poverty reduction plan. They encourage you to email your council and ask them to pass such a resolution.
The New West City Council is meeting to discuss the resolution on December 3rd, and Vancouver City Council meets on December 4th or 5th. Keep in touch with the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition on their Twitter account or website.
