Last week, over 50 youth in and from foster care descended upon the BC Parliament for the third year in a row. Policy Solutions Day brings together passionate youth to learn about advocacy, meet directly with decision-makers, and share stories about their experiences in care and their transitions out of care to illustrate the policy changes needed to make things better for youth now and for those coming after them.
The Fostering Change team and accompanying youth advocates met with Premier John Horgan, ten cabinet Ministers, several other MLAs and many local organizations. In each meeting, the youth called for urgent actions to better support youth aging out of care.
During the press conference at the BC Legislature, the youth participated in a ‘family portrait’ with large cut-outs of key BC Ministers to recognize that when youth are in and from care, their parents are in fact the government itself. We thank all the youth who participated for their energy and advocacy. Check out some photos from the event.
