Canadian Megatrends: Canadian youth and full-time work: A slower transition

In the latest edition of Canadian Megatrends, Statistics Canada reports that the Canadian labour force has changed significantly since the end of the Second World War. Nowhere is this more evident than among the youngest workers, 15- to-24-year-olds.

Among the findings:

  • Youth unemployment is always higher

  • Young people are increasingly likely to hold part-time jobs

  • Wages are decreasing for youth with full-time jobs
