BC Liberals make big promises in throne speech

One billion dollars to fund new child care spaces, a $100 increase of welfare rates, and a new minister of state for mental health were among the dramatic promises presented in the Throne Speech this week on behalf of the BC Liberal party.

While campaigning for the May 9, 2017 election, the BC Liberal party told First Call it would not support a provincial poverty reduction plan or increased supports for youth who age out of foster care at 19, but contradicted itself radically on both positions in this week’s speech.
