Communications and Development Volunteers

Communications and development volunteers support a variety of initiatives including event planning, fundraising, social media, website maintenance, newsletter writing, community outreach, research and more!

Volunteers will make valuable connections in Vancouver’s non-profit and child and youth serving communities and will acquire real-life experience in communications, fundraising, event planning and administration. Volunteers should have a strong interest in these areas and a passion for advocating for children and youth.

Two volunteers are selected for a four-month term to volunteer in the First Call office one day a week.

Spring 2017: We are not taking seasonal volunteers at the moment. Please stay tuned for more openings in autumn 2017.

Annual fundraising gala

In February each year, First Call holds an exciting fundraising gala. With a silent auction, raffle draw, and hundreds of guests, we work with a special team starting in December to deliver the most enjoyable evening possible. In 2017, we lined up speakers to pay powerful tribute to former BC Representative for Children and Youth, Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, and in 2016 we welcomed guest of honour Trevor Linden who used the evening to recognize former youth in foster care in a special partnership with the Vancouver Foundation’s Fostering Change initiative.

We don’t yet know who will headline our 2018 gala, but what we can confirm is that everyone who joins our annual gala organizing team goes home each year with great memories, sincere gratitude from all of us at First Call, and of course a full belly—dinner is included!

If joining us to throw our 2018 gala is something that interests you, please send an email now to info@firstcallbc.org with answers to the following questions (please copy into your email) and we’ll be in touch soon.
