MCFD Response to First Call Letter to Meet Re Commercial Child Care Operators

March 2016

On March 7, 2016, First Call’s Early Childhood Development Roundtable sent a letter to the Honourable Stephanie Cadieux, Minister of Children and Family Development, requesting a meeting to discuss concerns related to the availability of child care capital grants for commercial operators.

Aleksandra Stevanovic, executive director of Children & Youth with Special Needs, Autism and Early Years Policy within MCFD, responded on behalf of Minister Cadieux.

Excerpt:

Private child care providers play an important role in the provision of quality early learning and child care services across British Columbia and face similar capital costs as non-profit operators. By including the private sector, we are generating child care options in communities throughout the province, including rural communities, and creating an opportunity for both non-profit and private operators to create new child care programs province-wide.
