What a year it’s been for BC’s children and youth!

We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish in 2015 – from the success of the child support clawback campaign to shining a light on BC’s child poverty crisis with over 100 media hits – together, we’ve put BC’s children and youth first. Read on for more highlights from 2015!

YOU HELPED US ACCOMPLISH SO MUCH IN 2015!

 

1. POLICY VICTORY: WE ENDED THE CLAWBACK!

First Call and partners achieved an end to the clawback of child support from single parents on income and disability assistance! Our success means that $13.4 M will stay with 5,400 of BC’s vulnerable children. Learn more at firstcallbc.org/child-support-clawback/

 

2. WE PUT BC’S CHILDREN AND YOUTH ON THE POLITICAL AGENDA

We published a detailed toolkit for the federal election that highlighted what was at stake for BC’s children and youth at the federal level and provided resources to get children and youth on the political agenda. Learn more at firstcallbc.org/publications/2015-federal-election-toolkit/

 

3. WE DREW ATTENTION TO BC’S CHILD POVERTY CRISIS

Our 2015 BC Child Poverty Report Card received 100+ media hits, bringing the fact that 1 in 5 BC children are poor to the attention of the community and the government. Learn more and take action at still1in5.ca

 

4. WE CAMPAIGNED TO END THE PHYSICAL PUNISHMENT OF CHILDREN

We are excited to be hosting a new campaign to re-invigorate our long-standing call to repeal Section 43 of the Criminal Code that allows the physical punishment of children. Learn more at firstcallbc.org/corinnes-quest/

 

5. WE CERTIFIED OUR 50TH LIVING WAGE EMPLOYER!

Our Living Wage for Families Campaign certified our 50th living wage employer! AND Vancouver & Port Coquitlam committed to becoming living wage employers. Learn more at livingwageforfamilies.ca

 

6. WE LAUNCHED A BRAND NEW LOGO AND WEBSITE!

We launched a new logo and branding, as well as a completely new website with more resources and news as well as a take-action email tool. Check it out at firstcallbc.org
